Sustainability efforts at Stammershalle Badehotel
Welcome to Stammershalle Badehotel, where we take pride in combining comfort and relaxation with a responsible approach to hotel operations that not only benefits our guests, but also our local community and the environment.
For more than 100 years, Stammershalle Badehotel has provided the setting for memorable experiences surrounded by the beautiful nature of Bornholm. We want to protect both the bathing hotel and the unique nature, so that we can ensure that future generations can also enjoy these experiences for many hundreds of years to come. That is why we focus on hotel management where co-care and co-responsibility are paramount. Our goal is to give our guests an authentic experience, with present and sustainable hosting, with respect for the surroundings, nature and the local community.
Redevelopment and hotel operations
From 2021 to 2024, Stammershalle Badehotel has undergone an extensive renovation, respecting the unique aesthetics of the place. The restaurant, common areas and rooms have been decorated and preserved in accordance with the original architecture and the authenticity of the surroundings. By collaborating with local contractors and craftsmen, we have ensured an efficient renovation that also supports the local business community. In addition, materials from Bornholm have been used, such as granite from Rønne and wood from Østerlars Sawmill.
During the renovation, the hotel was additionally insulated, and energy-saving solutions and technologies have been implemented in the form of an air-to-water heat pump, LED lighting and heating control via Danfoss Ally™ smart heating. We have chosen to do without air conditioning, which promotes a more natural and less energy-intensive approach to comfort. When our guests arrive at the seaside hotel, they are greeted by a main entrance covered with a sedum roof, which benefits biodiversity and at the same time contributes to the aesthetics.
Shared responsibility and care
Sustainability encompasses more than just environmentally friendly measures; it also involves a responsibility to society. At Stammershalle Badehotel, we actively engage with local producers and suppliers. We work together with local artisans such as Baltic Sea Glass, Oh Oak and Paudal, who provide service and decoration for our restaurant and hotel. Our vases are adorned with flowers from Haeven Bornholm, who grow their beautiful flowers in Østermarie with a focus on sustainability and biodiversity. In our restaurant, you will benefit from local suppliers, where you can enjoy a range of delicacies and raw materials, both for breakfast and for the evening’s delicious, seasonal menu, to which we offer drinks from local wineries and breweries, among other things. We actively work to reduce food waste through creative solutions and dishes.
We care for our employees and promote inclusion through the employment of flexible workers and offer internships and apprenticeships. We have a collective agreement that ensures good financial conditions. Our membership of the board of the Regional Labour Market Council (RAR) has as its primary goal to ensure a developing and balanced Bornholm labour market.
Memorable stays
Here at Stammershalle Badehotel it is important that our guests have a memorable stay with a focus on quality, peace and presence. Our rooms and common areas are furnished with Danish-designed furniture and lamps to ensure high quality and aesthetics, as well as recycled furniture, reupholstered by a local upholsterer, which ensures a stylish and environmentally friendly interior. Our cleaning policy makes it possible to reduce water consumption, as towels are only changed if they are placed on the floor, after which they are washed in our own laundry.
We encourage our guests to explore the beautiful Bornholm nature on bike and hiking tours, and we offer free loans of books that guide you to nature and visits to local producers. Our guests can end a wonderful day by enjoying a dinner in our restaurant based on seasonal and local ingredients and with herbs gathered directly from the Bornholm nature.
We also offer free charging for electric cars with four charging stations, so our guests can easily continue their sustainable journey.
Future prospects
In the future, we plan to launch more green initiatives.
Among other things, we are striving for a paperless reception to reduce unnecessary printing. We will explore opportunities for circular collaborations with local companies and expand our collaboration with even more local suppliers. We will also install solar cells to heat the swimming pool in our new wellness area. Our goal is to be open all year round to ensure security and financial stability for our employees and to contribute to strengthening tourism and the experience economy on Bornholm.
We look forward to taking part in this journey together with our guests and the local community.
