Experiences and the surroundings at Stammershalle Badehotel

The surroundings at Stammershalle Badehotel

Stammershalle Badehotel is located on one of Bornholm’s most beautiful stretches between Gudhjem and Allinge and just 2 km from Tejn, so you don’t have to walk many steps before you stand in the unique Bornholm nature with the Helligdomsklipperne and the waterfall in Døndalen. Within walking distance, you can experience the island’s biggest attractions, cultural and historical memories, art in the international league and much more.

From Stammershalle Badehotel you have easy access to shopping, sightseeing, art, culture and the cozy towns. The buses leave directly from the door and you can hire bicycles at the reception. We are of course happy to help with booking and other things if you have special wishes for local experiences.

You can read more about Bornholm here.

Shopping in the market towns

The hollyhocks twine blooming against the crooked, small half-timbered houses in the Bornholm towns. Allinge, Gudhjem and Svaneke, voted the most beautiful market town in Denmark, are always lovely places to explore.

Markets are held all year round, where you can experience handicrafts or taste the island’s delicacies. From Stammershalle Badehotel you can take the bus east to Gudhjem and Svaneke or north to Allinge and Hammershus.

Pastariget

The warm ocean currents and many hours of sunshine make it possible to grow durum wheat on Bornholm. At Pastariget, they are the only one in Denmark to grow, harvest and process durum into award-winning pasta. In the farm shop you can buy the many different types of pasta with homemade pesto and visit the production, where the owners give a narrative tour.

Pure Rainforest Chocolate

At Pure Rainforest Chocolate, quality chocolate is made by hand from cocoa beans that are grown and harvested under sustainable and ethically responsible conditions. In continuation of the open production, where you can see how the cocoa beans are turned into delicious chocolate, you can visit the small café, which is the only 100% slave-free chocolate café in Denmark.

Vingården Lille Ladegaard

It is not without reason that Bornholm is known as Sunshine Island, because the climate is mild and warm all year round. This is exploited at the Lille Ladegård winery, which has the island’s largest vineyard. Here you can taste local wine or see the fields and the farm’s many animals. A lovely place for both children and adults.

Torvehal Bornholm

If you have visited the Torvehallerne in Copenhagen, you must also pass the Bornholm counterpart in Rønne. Explore the many specialties, enjoy a light lunch, an ice cream or visit the coffee roaster in the backyard.

Hallegaard

There are many farm shops on Bornholm, which you can swing past when you see the signs by the road. One of them is Hallegaard, who makes cold meats and cured sausages according to old craft traditions and without the use of additives. On the farm you can see the animals that are out all year round, and after a visit to the shop you can settle down in the small café.

Art and culture

Some of the country’s – and even the world’s – most famous artists come from Bornholm. The island has always been known for its artist colonies, which have brought together painters, ceramicists, glassblowers and other creatives in inspiring communities. This is still the case, and many artisans open their workshops to you and talk about their work with the materials.

Baltic Sea Glass

The vases and glasses we use at Stammershalle Badehotel are the result of local quality craftsmanship. Not far from here is Baltic Sea Glass, which makes world-class glass and glass art. You can visit the workshop where the breathers work, and they are happy to tell you about the craftsmanship and the processes behind the beautiful things.

Oluf Høst Museum

Oluf Høst is famous for his beautiful paintings of Bornholm nature. At the museum in Gudhjem you can experience his works and get up close to the artist with the strong connection to the island.

Bornholm’s Art Museum

There is a wonderful view towards the Heligdomsklipperne from Bornholm’s Art Museum, but it is not only the exterior that makes us recommend the place. Inside you can experience art in a special class through permanent and changing exhibitions from the 19th century to the present day.

The Bornholm Nature

Beautiful, white sandy beaches wedge themselves between meter-high rock formations and create small lagoons in the hilly landscape. Bornholm’s nature is unique and unlike anything you will find anywhere else in Denmark.

Many of the island’s hiking routes start from Stammershalle Badehotel, which take you past unique viewpoints and iconic sights. It is also possible to rent bicycles at reception if you want to experience nature on wheels.

The troll forest

Troldeskoven is located in the bathing hotel’s “back garden”, and here in the spring you can see the blue anemone, Apennina, which only grows here in the area. Botanical experiences are not the only thing the deep forest contains. To the east you will find a giant’s room and the remains of a settlement dating to the Stone Age.

If you continue your journey on the winding paths, you can also see an exposed shipwreck, remains from an Iron Age burial ground and the bear cave, which was part of the zoo that belonged to the Stammershalle Badehotel in the 1930s. If you want to learn more about the area’s history, we regularly hold guided historical tours that you can take part in.

The Døndalen

Our chefs gather herbs in Døndalen, and in addition to the tasty ingredients, it is also here that you will find Denmark’s largest waterfall. With a height of over 20 meters, it is an impressive sight that meets you.

The Sanctuary Rocks

The Sanctuary Rocks are a magnificent natural phenomenon located close to the Stammershalle Badehotel. Path and staircase systems make the trip between the rocks passable, but we recommend that you wear good footwear when you move between the up to 10 meter high rocks.

Hammerknuden

Put on the good hiking shoes and experience the incomparable viewpoints when you walk Hammerknuden. On the trip, you will pass Hammerhavnen, Hammerens lighthouse, Hammershus and Opalsøen, among other things, but of course you decide for yourself how long the route should be.

Opalsøen and Hammershus

Opalsøen is a disused quarry where the valuable Bornholm granite was mined in the past. Today, the lake is known for its beautiful, green water, over which daredevils can zipline. It is possible to take a short walk around the lake, so you can experience it from all angles.

From Lake Opal, it is not far to Northern Europe’s largest castle ruin, Hammershus. The historic site has played a decisive role in dramatic events since the Middle Ages, and today it is probably the island’s most well-known and well-visited attraction.

Baltic Yacht

The distinctive contours of the rocky coast stand out clearly from the sea side. Experience the distinctive landscape with Baltic Yacht, which sails from Gudhjem towards Stammershalle to Hammershus on the most beautiful sunset cruises.

Ertholmene Christiansø og Frederiksø

Ertholmene, Christiansø and Frederiksø form Denmark’s easternmost point and are definitely worth a visit. Magnificent nature, seals sunbathing on the rocks and fantastic birdlife await on the islands, which are a short boat ride from Gudhjem.

Hammerhavnens Bådfart and M/S Thor provide the crossing, and also take you on an exciting trip that sails into the impressive rock caves. Ask at reception if you are interested in a boat trip.

The coffee castle

At the top of the hill by the harbor in Gudhjem is the “coffee castle”, as it is called in the vernacular. It was built as a holiday home by a coffee wholesaler in 1912, and was built from parts from the demolished railway station in Copenhagen. That’s why it doesn’t look like other Bornholm buildings either.

Golf

In collaboration with Rø Golfklub, which has two recognized courses, we offer a dedicated golf stay with green fees every day. At the Old Course, even the discerning golfer gets a challenging experience in a hilly terrain with a view of rocks, lakes and the Baltic Sea. The New Course is one of Denmark’s longest and most beautiful courses with a panoramic view over the Baltic Sea and Christiansø.
